An AI model, an agent and a skill solve different parts of a problem. Understanding the difference makes it easier to choose a resource and know what you are installing.
The model generates the response
A model learns statistical patterns during training and uses them to generate outputs. Language models work with tokens: pieces of text that can be words, parts of words or punctuation. Other models work with images, audio, video, or combinations of these. A model is one part of an application; the surrounding software supplies the interface, storage and access to tools.
The agent connects reasoning with actions
An agent is a system built around a model. It can select tools, inspect results and continue toward a task. Its real capabilities depend on its tools, instructions, permissions and stopping rules. Two agents using the same model can behave very differently. A resource labeled for an agent describes its intended environment; it is not a guarantee that every required integration is installed.
The skill supplies reusable instructions
A skill packages guidance for a particular kind of work. It can contain instructions, references and supporting files. Installing one adds those files to a location your agent can discover. It does not automatically give the agent new credentials or the ability to run every tool mentioned in the instructions. Review bundled scripts and requirements before using a package.
Prompts and workflows have their own jobs
A prompt gives instructions within an AI interaction. A workflow describes a repeatable process and may connect multiple tools or models. An MCP server provides a standardized connection to tools or data. These resources can work together, but their requirements and installation methods differ.
Choose the resource for the task
Start with the work you need to do, then check the resource format, intended platform, author and requirements. Use the directory filters to narrow the catalog. Open a resource to read its instructions and licensing information before downloading or installing it.
